DIY Girl Scout Bow

Hey there!

If there is one thing all Girl Scouts have in common, it’s their pride of being a Girl Scout. Whenever, wherever, however.. a Girl Scout is always willing and ready to represent their troop or affiliation.

For us, this year we decided to make it super easy to share our GS pride when out selling cookies, going to meetings and events.

If you have ever spent hours clicking and scrolling and searching on the GS website (like myself), you know that there are tons of adorable items. Unfortunately, most of those items at times are not within the budget.

So, in order to add to my daughter’s arsenal of Girl Scout goodies, I decided I needed to DIY something this time.

While out looking for cookie booth supplies, it dawned on me. St. Patrick’s Day was coming up and there is ALWAYS tons of green! So, I headed to the holiday section at Dollar Tree and scanned through their items. My eyes landed on their “costume” items and I immediately knew what I was going to do! They had this small collection of oversized bow ties, so naturally they should be used as a bow!

We grabbed our favorite one and headed right back home to get crafting.

So, get ready to do this simple DIY with us!

All you need is:
Green Bow Tie
Flat Hair Clip
Hot Glue Gun
Tape
Cardboard
Markers

First, decide if you want to keep the elastic or not. We kept it on to help cover some of the silver.

Once you decided if you are going to keep it or not, you can move on! For the purposes of this post, I will share steps on how we did it with the elastic band.

Next, position the bow where you would like it to rest. Then (this is kinda tricky) take the elastic band and wrap it in between the clip until it covers the clip. At this point, you may decide to just get rid of it, that’s OKAY!

Once you wrap the clip secure it with hot glue. Then secure the bow on top with hot clue as well. Hold the bow down tightly to make sure it is fully sealed.

Finally, once your hair clip is secured, you can put that final Girl Scout touch to it and add your cookies.

To make the cookies, cut out round circles. Try to keep them the same size. Using a marker color your cookies to replicate your favorite cookies. My daughter made a Samoa and a Thin Mint!

Once your cookies are to your liking, cover them in clear tape. Packing tape works best as it holds longer and is stronger. Once your cookies are wrapped, hot glue them to your bow!

See, super simple. You probably already finished yours before completing this post lol.
